Best of Jupiter

This is the best I could do with my setup, im thinking a 12" newton with a DMK41 is going to be my next buy. Till next time, this my final image of the great Jupiter I will post here

If anyone can help me select a good planetary setup please comment. I have a eq6 pro as a mount to start with, my last setup was mainly DSOs.

Thanks for looking.

Dan

I'd be more inclined to use a dbk21 or dmk21 with that scope. Those images are great for an SLR.

Hi Dan
great pics considering your aperture and camera. Most of the best planetary imagers use SCTs.Damian Peach who won astrophotgrapher of the year uses a Celestron C14 and a Flea3 camera. Sean Walker who is the imaging editor for Sky and Telescope magazine gets great images using a 12.5 inch Newtonian and a DMK 21 618 Camera.
You are better off with the DMK21 as you will get a larger image on the chip. The DMK 41 is better for lunar or solar where you want to capture a large area of detail.
You may want to start with a color camera like the DFK 21 until you get used to the new scope. Once you have mastered the color camera you can switch to a DMK or Flea3 and a filter wheel etc...
I use Firecapture for capturing the images. It is a great program.

My humble attempts at imaging were mostly taken with a celestron c11 edge hd and DMK 21 AUs or DMK 21 618 camera.

Thank you Carl for sharing some very valuable information. It really seems to be a popular DMK 21, I think ill purchasing that model to start with. If im going to do it right im going to do it first time As for the SCT's whats the biggest I can go for the EQ6 pro I know 25kg is the limit so 12" to big? If im going send $'s to get a SCT I wouldn't mine if it was capable for DSO, but I guess that comes down to the focal ratio, and im sure theirs no f/5 SCT hey.

Hi Dan,
the biggest SCT by Celestron is the c14 and that weighs 20Kg so your mount should be able to handle it.I think it is f11.Celestron also makes the edge hd series of scopes. These scopes have extra lenses built into the baffle to flatten the field and eradicate coma.I have a celstron c11 edge HD and apparently you can do deep space objects with it without a focal reducer. There is a description on Celestrons website about the edge HD optics. The edge HD scopes are more expensive than the regular C11 or C14.

As far as the camera goes buy the DMK21 618.It has a much better chip in it than the DMK 21AUS.Look at my Jupiter images from 9-128-2011 and you can see the difference between the DFK,DMK 21 and DMK 21 618 cameras.
