What's going on in the Gobi Desert?

I stumbled across this article in the local tabloid Herald Sun. I'm not proposing some conspiracy theory but it looks like some massive works going on. What could it all be? I've done a quick scan on Google Earth and cannot locate the objects thus far.

Photoshopped? Or just China's massive infrastructure projects.

edit: Just looking at a massive matrix of wind turbines 10 miles south west of Yumen, Gansu Province, China. I lost count at 200!

I think they are building a trans-dimensional gate to allow the "Old Ones" to cross back.

Was that article written by a 13 year old?

Strange stuff, that's for sure.

The scale of the grid in the last image boggles the mind.

Yep, I was thinking the same, but it has been picked up by most tabloid papers so they are appealing to a certain audience

Strangely enough I cannot locate any reference on the internet for any precise coordinates for these locations.

Hunting around the border of mongolia there are some strange things...

check these out.

1. Looks like a launch pad...?
2. This is weird for the middle of the desert. Check out the big Eiffel Tower-like structure on the southern edge
3. This square is 1km on each edge, and what is the arrow for??
4. Large airforce base.
5. No idea

Very interesting area to look around
Adam

Appears there are lots of launch facilities dotted around this region. How many? More than they're letting on, I bet!

That is weird!

An amazing area to look around, you're right. Just amazing how much infrastructure China has built up in such remote regions. The rest of the world really has underestimated them for a long time.

The picture at point No.5 appears to be an archeological dig, judging by the surrounding terrain.

just one curious observation from Google Earth/Maps in these locations is that there are no vehicles on the roads, even in those towns close by.

And what are these places?

1. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en...h&z=16&vpsrc=6

2. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en...h&z=16&vpsrc=6

3. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en...h&z=17&vpsrc=6

At first I thought they were coal mines, then I thought perhaps archeological sites?

This looks like a coal mine: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en...h&z=17&vpsrc=6

Number 4: Large Air Force base

42 Fighter Jets!!!!

What amazes me is the amount of tyre marks everywhere and other strange markings in some areas.

When I looked at the SMH story and click on the view larger link, it went to Google and had these coordinates in the search bar: 40.452107,93.742118

When I went and looked there, down in the bottom left hand corner there is another odd grid structure - some sort of towers, there is a building in the lower right corner of it, and it has a fence right around some 100m or so from the installation - anyone have ideas on what it might be?

Plus ahwt looks like it could be an airfield and some other grid structures. It's a busy place!

2 - looks like a hydroponic lab.
There's a line of settling tanks and a self contained living area including a footy field.
The tower looks like a radio mast/repeater or microwave.
