Question Alice in March?

Going to Oz (from USA) for the March new moon. The timing - March - is constrained by the business I will have in Sydney. The idea currently is to observe from near Alice Springs, staying at a campground there for about a week. Is this a safe bet, as far as the weather for deep-sky observing? Would northern NSW or the Capricorn Hinterland in Queensland, for example, be better? I mention these places in particular, because we are also interested in fossicking. Last time we were in the Emerald area (QLD) in December two years ago (the timing was again constrained by the business I had in Brisbane), and the weather was OK but not great. Any advice will be much appreciated!
