Man!! These are great photos.
Were these images captured with your DFK or perhaps with the DMK monochrome with the use of coloured filters?.
I have been looking at the range of cameras from "The Imaging Source" who manufacture these but todate I am undecided which one to go for!
Would welcome capture/ settings info if you would kindly provide.
Many thanks
Clear skies.

Thanks Anthony,
I took these images with the DMK 21 618 camera,celestron c11 edge hd on a cgem mount,televue 2.5 powermate,astronomik filters.
I used Firecapture 2.0. 1/60s exposure 60 fps and captured 1 min per channel (3600 frames).

I have three Imaging source cameras.
1.DMK21 AUS-THis is a mono camera.Very nice camera, but not as sensitive as the DMK 21618 camera
2.DFK 21.This is a color camera. It can give you really nice images if seeing is good and it is a good starter camera since you dont need filters or a filter wheel.
3.DMK 21 618.This is TIS newest mono camera. It is much more sensitive than the DMK21 AUS.You can use a shorter exposure and less gain so you get better images.

If you are just starting i would get the DFK (or DBK) so you can learn how to capture and then move on to the mono 21 618..

I'd second the recommendation to start off with one of the colour cameras first and then move to mono once you get the skills down.
The photos on the link below were done with the IS One Shot Colour camera and a C8, so you can get great results from the colour cameras as well.

As usual Carl, superb images! Well done.

All I'm getting is rubbish at the moment with this horrible jet stream (and also responsible for the just over 5hr flight recently from Sydney to Perth!)

Thanks Darrin,
lots of clouds predicted here for the next couple of weeks. It is also getting cold here now so it is hard to stay out for too long. I know of a few aussie imagers that have battled the jet stream for months. Is this normal for you guys or is this year different?

Carl,

There is normally a jet stream from west to east. I normally gauge it by the flight times from Perth to Sydney. Perth -> Syd around 3hr 30min and Syd -> Perth normally 4hr 10min but lately, the trips I have been on are pushing 5hrs coming back and as fast as 3:10 going to Syd on a 747. Occasionally, the plane has had to travel down to Melbourne first before heading west to stay away from it.

Good luck with the cold. Don't forget to post some snowfall photos in the terrestrial section if you get them. Snow is rare here in Australia and my next o/seas trip will be targetted to catch a northern hemisphere winter.

Cheers,
Darrin...
