Focuser Tube Sliding at sharp angles

Hi folks,

I am a newbie here but I have been hanging around for a little while. I can only say it's a great site with lots of good natured people on it with good advice.

I am hoping someone can help with a problem I am having with a second hand TV85 scope I recently bought.

I find that the focuser tube slides out of focus at sharp angles when viewing towards the zenith.

There is a small screw type clamp on the tube that can fix the tube in place, but this is difficult to use when you want to refocus, particularly at higher powers. I find that a small bump/adjustment sends vibrations through the scope for a few seconds afterwards.

I dont have enough technical knowledge to modify/service the scope at this point in time. I would really appreciate some feedback on a solution.

Hi Nick and welcome

It sounds like the focusser locking screw is just not tight enough so the focus tube is slipping. Try tightening it up but, yes, you'll have to loosen and re-focus when you alter magnification. It's a bit of a hassle but you'll get used to it.
