At About 14.5mag and 54 deg north is pretty far north for most of Aus except for the north, I hope to get a look if the clouds will just go away

Visibility for 33°S, 2011-08-27

Rise: 14h01m Azimuth+14°07'
Culmination: 15h39m +02°13'
Set: 17h18m Azimuth+345°53'

An altitude of +02°13' is 10° below my treeline, and it's only up in daylight.

Chic0, it won't even get above the horizon in the city of endless cloud.

Ron has some chance, but maybe not until it is up at night.

You've got the best horizon of any SE Qld spot I've visited Ron, but alas, M101 is gone even for you 'til next year now. All the years I spent trying to snap a picture of this sucker and now there's a reason to be looking again

Hi all, i have been a member here for ages but havnt posted much.
Hope its ok to jump straight in here.

Im in Darwin, having read that the north is about the only place that might see M101 im looking at having a peek if i can.

Any chance you can tell me where i might find info on where and when it will be up?

Should get a view in a 12'' LX200 if it gets high enough

The scope sill tell me i know, but the battery pack is dead flat (charging now).

Edit:

It was worth a try, its very low even for me, virtually no chance of seeing it without driving out of town.

Sadly its too far north for us, but I managed to grab this from New Mexico. Looks like its going to top out around Mag 10.3.
