Prawn widefield RGB

Yet another one from Wiruna. Around the prawn is a pretty cool field colorwise. A few nice multi-coloured clusters and the dark tower at the top with its faint blue reflection nebulae just visible. Loads of stars in this area again and lots of different colors.

There's a bigger field here [5.4MB]

This was shot with an SMC Pentax -M 200mm lens full aperture mounted on a QHY8. Exposures 10x5min.

This area's one of my favourite.

Again I like the contrast and the dark dusty regions,very cool...nice Marc...don't know why you've left so much green though?

Well spotted. I left it as is on purpose coz I like the different color shades in the yellow sandy parts of the milkyway . I could run one pass of HLVG to make it redder but I like it better like that. It's more obvious to pickup. Personal preference.

What's wrong with green? - I'm not sure I understand.
Isn't green part of the colour structure?
There seems to be some sort of competition amongst some of you guys to outdo each other.
I'm not sure I like it very much - it's not only intimidating, it serves no one and helps no one.

Yeh no place for that 70's wall paper colour in astronomy backgrounds and stars, it's a quirky thing astroimagers have...mission brown on the other hand, well..?

I wouldn't worry about anything that you are interpreting as competition, from what I have seen on here it is always pretty harmless and (usually) just fun healthy banter, nothing wrong with that. Many of us have been on this forum for years so all know each other, hence some liberties are taken at times

. We can't all be the same and act the same way, that would be rather boring - a bit of variety is the spice of life and characters make it interesting ...so please don't be intimidated, we are all pretty normal really..(except Fred

) even if at times the words may seem to indicate otherwise

What is It you feel I've done wrong? I don't think that a personal attacks on me is warranted when I've done nothing to anybody.

Green is not a common color in nebulae and star fields so it's likely that when it creeps in a picture it is due to light polution or poor color balance. No competition here. We just post pretty shots and comments pointing out what we like or don't. That's how we learn. If we didn't want feedback or criticism we wouldn't post.

The only colour I can see in space is green ( a touch of it on M42) so in Ignorance, I thought that green was actually a colour that was there.
I know our eyes receive green better than other colours, but I thought they would not receive a colour if it wasn't there.

Its an interesting topic really.

I agree the only colour I have noticed visually through scopes is a touch of green and as you say in M42.

But with colour digital images where sensitivity and long exposure shows up the actual colours its a different scenario. Green of course is one of the 3 primary colours but no stars are green and nebulas are not green. So if green is showing up (unless its narrowband) then there is an imbalance.

Green is also the colour where light pollution shows up most.

hehe... yeah you tend to see greenish brown when looking at M42 in a big scope. The only place there's a tad of green I think is in the core of the tarantula.
