Wiruna area: Kandos cement works to close

This may be of some interest to ASNSW members and others who go to Wiruna and the SPSPs:

I live in Kandos, but I'm in the UK at the moment and heard the news via e-mail. Apologies if it's been more widely publicised already.

It's a great shame for the locals, but I'm sure visiting astro folks will always be able to have great breakfasts and replenish their provisions in town.

I'd like to add something about the 'carbon tax', but a big lock might suddenly descend, so I'd better not.

i was at a Fed Budget talk on the 30 June last where the guest speaker Ross Greenwood who informed us that Australia now imports the majority of its building bricks from China Kandos didnt have a chance ,but the views of the sky from Kandos are fantastic especially now that the town will close down.
