'Turn Left at Orion' through Amazon UK. They had it on special and with a few BluRays my wife wanted got free delivery to NZ. Minimum order was 25 pound.

Now I can't wait to peruse. Heard so much about how good this book is and I've never seen it on the shelves over here.

I'm still waiting for my book order placed two weeks from the UK

, I got one book last Monday, but alas still another four to go

, hope they arrive today before the weekend

. They don't normally take this long.

Stephen O'Meara's "Observing The Night Sky With Binoculars" and another one "Star Clusters And How To Observe Them" by Mark Allison are amongst them.

I like those star clusters, I do, they are like crushed gems in the sky- a girls best friend!

Suzy, yes, books seem to be taking a bit longer from Bookdepository of late, perhaps we have given them too much action.

That's interesting to know I'm not the only one..

After I posted here, I got two books in the afternoon. But another two yet to come. Should arrive today or tomorrow I suppose. Oh well, free shipping and all so can't complain too much. The Night Sky Observers Guide from Powell's in the U.S. cost me $19 for shipping,

the book was only $38! That hurt

Lucky I love the book. Still, would have been way more expensive here, so I really can't complain too much- again.

They tend to dispatch pretty much straight away as per online tracking- my experience with the Book Depository and Powells anyway. Then there's that lag time in transit! June 16th seems a long time to wait though

I keep hearing recommendations for "Turn Left at Orion", must be a good book and I wonder why I don't have it.

Just had a look to see what the book is about, Book Depository have got it for sale for only $28.62- so I am about to order a copy!

And it's Cambridge University Press - I love their books!

I've just ordered the same book! (Turn Left at Orion) Sounded pretty good and it is pretty cheap on Amazon so I got that and a couple of others

Just a quick review, should have done it ages ago. Well worth having. The book tends to de-mystify some of the jargon and all the numbers that normally accompany our hobby/obsession.
Although it is Northern Hemishere predominant obviously many of the objects he talks about are visble from down south and he covers (and praises enviously) some of the more obvious southern delights we enjoy. He uses a shrinking field of view sequence of diagrams to help you find and navigate to the object and then gives a nice clear description of what is known or conjectured about it. And then he throws in some other interesting information about nearby objects as well. Certainly a good beginners starter to finding their way around the skies and seeing some interesting objects.
For those of you who are more familiar with the skies it is the kind of book I would give or recommend to someone to get their interest started.
It's certainly given me some interesting targets to look for ... if the clouds and rain ever go away. .....
