Saturn June 11th

Hi All,

Imaged Saturn last night with the view to capturing the region of the head of the storm with RGB & 807nm IR data sets at 30 min intervals over 137 mins. The first 2 data sets were in fair conditions but then got noticeably softer.

Have attached the best RGB & 807nm IR data set as well as animations of all 5 data sets in RGB, IR, and R.

There are some very bright and concentrated spots in this region and the head itself is quite bright, although the seeing for the head itself was quite soft.

Trevor, those stormy bands near the north pole are so compelling that they seem almost palpable. Another great image from a true pro who is in complete control of his optical system.

Those storm structures are interesting particularly in the second animation thanks for keeping us updated.Have you kept a seperate log of the change in storm structure over the past several months?

Thanks Derek, I always save my data, have filled 7 1Tb external drives since June last year, I have tracked this storm since Dec 14th 2010.

Thanks for the most generous comment Peter. In this business experience is a great teacher. I am very analytical about the whole process from the scope through capture & processing, as time passes I like to think I am improving continually what I do. Actually it is good from time to time when things do go wrong.
Each of us in this game have a different focus, mine is to supply time relevant data of scientific value, not nessecarily of esthetic appeal, although sometimes with good seeing both are possible.

Thanks very much Ric, the RPWS instrument on Cassini indicates that the storm is still maintaining its intensity.

Thanks very much Jeanette, there is a lot happening at the moment with Saturn involving several research groups. When I get a run of reasonable weather I am full on capturing data for them. Sometimes I think twice about posting it all, dont want be flooding the forum with Saturn data but I hope it is of some interest.
