Ben don't be sorry mate, its all good, I was just amazed to see that colour to the water, never seen that bsfore, and yep, have to agree, plenty of wind lately so that may have something to do with it.
Gee Leon that is really unusual, it is normally a turquoise colour. They are not dredging again are they as that usually messes it up a bit. The islands are great for fishing and many have small houses (read shacks) setup by locals who have a 100 year lease. You need a boat but be careful swimming in that water as there are lots of nasty critters. There is a really nice beach if you head back toward Karratha but turn left on the burrup road. About 5km up you come to a turnoff (used to be a construction camp) to hearson cove, lovely spot. I lived and worked there between 1984 - 1988 and loved the place. There is also another great spot about 60km north called Point Sampson and an old ghost town called Cossack. All very interesting but I suggest you give Roebourne a big miss.
Only seen that twice in my life, both times as a teenager on the Central Coast around Port Macquarie area.
Both those times it was due to the bottom being stirred up by stormy seas.
Leon, back in the early seventies I lived in Roebourne as a kid. We used to wagg school and float down the Harding River all the way to Point Sampson in an old bathtub. After spending the day at the beach we used to drag the bathtub back up the river and get home just in time for a good whipping for wagging school. The jetty at Sampson used to be twice as long but got burnt down. They have dammed the Harding now up near Karratha so the river is barely a trickel now. As you drive out of Roebourne toward Port Headland you will see a half built bridge across the Harding River. My old man worked on that and all the bridges from Carnarvon to Broome. Spent much of my early days living in camps along side those rivers, loved it and would not have it any other way. As you head toward Headland make sure you stop at Whym Creek Pub (about halfway), lots of history there. Did you get a chance to visit the gorges around Wittnoom Gorge? Well worth a look with great scenary.
