H-alpha sun on April 18th

I'm slowly getting a handle on these high-res solar disks, though seamless stiching is still proving to be problematic, my latest results are

I just love the detail and image scale you get Peter!

And your needlework looks fine to me.

Al.

Thanks, Al, Matt.

There is some medium scale non-uniformity to the stitch which I have'nt quite sussed out.... and suspect the fix is simply to have greater overlaps in the capture .avi's .

But hopefully I'll have this sorted soon, as old Sol is becoming more active of late

Nice image again Peter. I have found that there is uneven illumination with the solarmax 60 and this makes for difficult stitching together. Am I right in thinking this is not a problem for the Solarmax90? Are you reducing gamma or leaving it at native during capture? Some of my double and trip mosaics have worked well but large scale mosaics just have all sorts of trouble with illumination. Consistency of the illumination is the real issue. I usually set it for the brightest region and then start the mosaic. I was reducing gamma at capture but now am thinking that no reduction is best until processing.

Thanks Paul. The SM90 is pretty forgiving, though in a double stack it is possible to mis-align the etalons which will give an uneven (lateral, rather than hot-spot) field.

I try to keep gain at zero and a gamma of 1 then only vary the exposure time to keep the Skynyx's noise to a minimum. The Skynyx can also capture at 12bits in a native .ser format.... which kills on the post processing front, as file sizes can easily run 2Gig for a mere 600 frames.
