Is it worth buying a cls filter for imaging

I used to have a 1.25 inch cls. Astromik filter but didn't really find it useful when I had a DSLR
Now I have a QHY 8, and want at least once in a while to image in colour I'd appreciate any wisdom from actual users to inform my buy no buy decision

So do you find it useful? Can you get say 5 minute subs?
My light pollution and gradients are horrible. A simple stretch reveals all the colours of an aurora
very frustrating

I don't use one with my RC8 and QHY8 up to 10 minute subs

but I'm in Perth suburbs so probably not as bad LP wise

Narayan, i use the CLS 2" CCD version, i could do a 15min shot at iso 800 but i settle for 10 min shots at that ISO. You than have a hell of a time colour balancing at the end.

Oh yes the colour balance was always an issue,but at least one could go 5 minute subs...worth it perhaps. Is yours the hutch or an astronomik?

I never had a great deal of problems with colour balance when using the cls filter, you just need to back of the blue channel a bit if anything.
Probably a better one to look at would be the IDAS LPS filter like one of theses here.

Well worth the dollars for where I live. If I didn't have one, I wouldn't be able to get very long subs at all, probably 50 sec max. When I used a light pollution filter, I can get that out to ten minutes, no probs. Unfortunately, the light pollution filters will inadvertently block some of the light you are trying to record, however as with anything, it is a trade off.

For the QHY8, I would reccommend the 48mm screw on version.
