This is the type of landscape image that I most enjoy indulging myself in and capturing; pristine, untouched, and wild.

I made this image at the bottom portion of Maclean Falls, which were heavily flowing at the time. The presence of soil in the water (discolouring in the fall, and in the source fall towards the top right) indicates that it had been raining very heavily around the time of my trip to this location. I can attest to the insane amount of rain falling in the area.

The Catlins, South Island, New Zealand.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
4s f/16.0 at 22.0mm iso100

Hardly any post processing work needed to be done; RAW sharpening, cropping, and a levels adjustment layer green-channel masked at an opacity of 33% just to bring the mosses out a touch.

As a treat, I've put a large version up here so you can appreciate the scene and its beauty a bit more. Nothing comes close to the print, though.

Your comments and critique, are as always, most welcome.

You get to some nice locations H. That is beautiful. The colour in the water really sets it off.

I enjoyed the wider angle of this one H.

Only problem is that I find myself staring into it waiting for a Hobbit to jump out.

Cheers

Ron,

Cheers. The panoramic rendition works a lot better than the full frame.

Rowland,

New Zealand is paradise. Everyone reckons that's pee in the waterfall.

The first time I looked at this when you posted it, I thought, "Meh, another waterfall, they are all starting to look the same to me no matter who takes them, including me."

But I have found myself coming back to this one half a dozen times now. The more I see it, the more I like it.

Can't quite put my finger on it, but this is a lovely shot that draws me into a feeling of sitting quietly on the side wall of a damp, warm gulley and forgetting about the world as I just sit and appreciate the calm and beautiful simplicity of a waterfall.

Baz.

Barry and Adam,

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the image. I hope to be able to photograph that place again one day with a little sunshine sparkling on the water.

Cheers.
