Quick M83

M83 captured at Snake valley Astro camp while waiting for true darkness to fall.

Image is a compilation of 4X10 minute each RGB and 5X10 minute Lum frames captured with QHY9, Baader filters and Takahashi FSQ 106ED at f5.

The image does suffer a gradient problem but here it is.

One question though, if you are using an FSQ why do the brighter stars show hints of difraction spikes?

One explanation would be some moisture in the air.

Still picked up plenty of detail in the spiral arms. Given the conditions, a very good image.

Looks great for a preliminary target Doug. It looks like you're still shooting with the QHY9 sometimes then? Any reason the SBIG didn't get an outing to Snake Valley?

Thanks Trevor, The difraction spikes evident are a result of the shutter operation. The operation is quite short thus the tiny spikes.

Thanks Rob. I have the Atik 11002M over in Portugal getting an overhall at the moment and Theo was kind enough to loan me a QHY9 Mono to use while my big CCD was away. It has taken over a month to get to Atik and through Portugals Customs service. I am seriously thinking of settleing on the 8300 CCD for all my imaging and moving the big CCD on. Not sure I want such a big field of view as I get with the 11002.

Thanks for the kind comments guy's. It has been an interesting exercise using the 8300 QHY9 again. A great camera at a bargain price.

Thanks must go to Theo, he is one out of the bag for sure. I am thinking about going back to the QHY9. It is a great camera and does lower my field of view a bit from the 11002 which seems to be what I am after.
