Belly-button lights!

Two mates gave me a hand for this one...or a belly. We had no white reflectors to even out the torch-light for this long-exposure. So the three of us used a dolphin torch each, lifted our shirts and reflected the light off our bare white bellies to light the foreground evenly!!

Worked out good huh?

re bellies

Wow!,certainly very impressive image-and interesting 'in the field' approach.

Barry- I am just wondering if you could let us know how you did the other parts of the image-exp time for night sky,I am wondering if you had a small EQ mount you take into the field for your camera.I take it its a composite image.Hope you do not mind revealing some more details (the bellies are revealed so I guess you will not mind sharing a few how too's of this lovely image).

Cheers Chris

Hi Baz,

Fabulous image with a great contrast between the rocks and the sky. Timeless.

Nothing fancy I'm afraid Chris. Just a single 30 second exposure. No composites, no layers, nothing. Sitting on a plain old static tripod.

WOW you have given me hope all I need is a darker site and a heap more skill. What ISO and Aperture if you don't mind revealing secrets.

It will be interesting to see how you write this up in the 'Photography for Beginners' book.

"Chapter 6 Part 3: Belly 'soft floodlighting' - In this section we discuss how to use 3 Dolphin Torches, 2 friends, and your bellies . . . "
