Better email program?

Hi

I recently replace my Microsoft Internet Explorer with Mozilla Firefox which I find much better.

I am now wondering if there is a better email program than Microsoft Outlook Express. Any suggestions?

Hi Peter,

I used to use Mozilla Thunderbird, which was pretty good. But I've sinced moved to the cloud

If I was feeling narkie I'd say anything was better than Outhouse Depressed. Even curses based ones like pine, elm and mail.

I'm half way through weaning SWMBO off Outhouse and into Windows Live Mail. I don't think it is worth the pain of trying to get her to use Thunderbird. She won't use Firefox instead of Internet Exploder.

Thunderbird is a good email client, I've used it for years. Though recently I have moved to Apple Mail (since I bought an iMac)

I use Pegasus Mail http://www.pmail.com/ It's not the easiest to set up but it has great security features.

I have used it since the Windows 3.1 days.

A lot of files are banned in gmail. You can't send or receive exe files for example. May be a problem for some. I use office outlook.

Identical experience whether you are using Windows, Linux or Mac. Super faster search and retrieval, document management, calendar, social media etc. Will sync with any ISP or mail provider, can sync to multiple mail accounts, yet give you individual control over each account, ie doesnt just dump them all into one inbox.

Thunderbird is good, alot of people seem to like incredimail but personally I would'nt touch it with a bit stick.

Not all forums (maybe including IIS

) allow you to sign up using a free email account such as Gmail, Yahoo! and HotMail.

BTW, I have 2 Gmail email addresses, 1 Yahoo! email address, and 2 BigPond email addresses.

Hotmail is usually the problem, but it's changing.

IIS has no restrictions on registering with those domain names.

Hi All
I followed up on your suggestions and settled on Mozilla Thunderbird.
I like the very clean way it deals with mail and it does not assail me with incorrect messages regarding mail problems as did Windows Outlook.

Good choice.
Just make sure you compact mailboxes from time to time... and make sure you are deleting un-necessary files. Otherwise you may loose mail when/if mailbox becomes bigger than something (recently I managed to find out about it after couple of years of using Thunderbird.. and only couple of not very important messages were lost).

How big is the "bigger than something"?

I have a cheap webhost that runs my own domain and allows me to have as many mailboxes as I want. I find this handy when signing up to a new service/forum/store etc as I can assign a separate email address for each one. You then know know exactly where your spam is coming from!

All mailboxes feed back to a single address that I read via Evolution on Linux.

As I have Bigpond Cable, I also have a Bigpond email address which I try not to use if I can avoid it. Most of the spam I get is via this address.

I fished around when I got my new laptop, and also settled on Mozilla, no problemos.

I have Gmail-very easy to use,can use it anywhere on all computers-never had spam,most people I know that use it have never had any issues with it.Highly recommended. C
