A while back I was clouded in for three days, missing some great activity the guys were talking about here. Hopefully there'll be some images turning up on IIS later today.

It looked best earlier this morning - somewhat broken up now, but still big - looks like the Tarantula nebula hovering above the limb of the Sun. Blowing a gasket is a slight exaggeration but it's the best I've seen in quite a while.

That eruption has mostly dissipated now though there's still some gas a long way out from the surface, but there's a beautiful, fine flare loop on the opposite side of the Sun.

Talk of a new Maunder minimum seems like a long time ago now.
