Hey gang, I went outside tonight and looked up. I noticed lots of white dots in the sky.

Any ideas?

I went out to have a look to see if I could identify them for you...and got a face full of rain. Sorry, can't help you Baz. Whatever they are, it doesn't sound normal to me.

I saw them as well Baz. Came inside to get my glasses to check more closely, but when I went outside I channeled Dean's experience, a faceful of water. But it will stop. It will, and it will clear.

Leon where are you at the moment? Must be Perth if you reckon these could be stars.

As far as I can tell, the east coast has clear shies during daylight and cloud/rain sunset to sunrise.

Pretty awesome eh Baz.

Haven't seen them in a long while, it's crystal clear out my way. I got dark skys and a glowing milky way.

Only problem I've been brush cutting all day and I'm too knackered to set up the scope.

Cheers

Speaking of weird things outside.............. I think we have that 'rain' stuff at the moment. Its been a while, but it has a wet feeling, its falling from the sky, and the fireflies arn't stuck in the black thing anymore????

WEIRD!!!!!

Dunno Baz. They looked odd so I tried to photograph some to see what the blazes they were but they went away.

Hi Baz,

I think I have an answer confirming the stars theory.

I met someone who knows someone that used to know an amateur astronomer. (Astronomers are a rare species that is on the endangered list. Bordering on extinction locally.)

Yes, and this amateur astronomer had seen these white dots. He called them stars too. Hope that helps.

Cheers

I'm thinking of marking graduations on the outside of my telescope and turning it into a rain gauge

I already have 3 rain gauges, an SCT doesn't catch much water since the corrector is really close to the top of the tube, and the dew shield is not watertight.
