Help please.

Hey all,

I recently purchased a bintel 10:1 focuser after being told that i would only have to drill some new holes into the OTA of my skywatcher 12" scope to fit the new bracket.

The focuser arrived today. Well there IS NO WAY i can just "drill a couple of holes." to fit the new bracket as the new bracket is so small that the holes on it sit half over the rim of the focuser hole in the OTA.

Does anyone have a solution to this that does not require me to shape and cut a new peice of metal that i have to mount over the hole so i have something to drill into?

cheers

Michael

You could notch the edge of existing Focusser hole to take the necessary bolts and nuts but in that case I would also make a thin aluminium plate to go inside the OTA to provide alignment and support. That would keep the focusser to minimum height as well instead of adding to it.

How about using large flat washers on the inside to fasten the bracket.
Cheers!

How about calling Bintel? I'm sure they will give you a hand to sort it out.

Cheers.

Damn, that Skywatcher has a HUGE hole. It must have an enormous original focuser.

Sorry, but the only way I can see out of it is to make a plate.

http://www.focuser.com/cgi-bin/dman....roduct=UNI-KIT

Maybe the universal instal kit from moonlight will fix it for 50bucks. Email them and ask.

Pensonally, I'd get bintel to resolve it.

If I'm not mistaken that Bintel 10:1 focuser is actually a GSO and no way it's going to fit the SW 12" without making a cover plate of some sort

Best to get in touch with Bintel to sort it out as someone else suggested

HTH
Cheers
Bill
