Hi All.

When I flew to America to meet the inlaws in april 2003, I didn't hit any 'hot tourist spots' such as New york or Disneyland or anything (as much as I wanted to). Maybe next time.

1: On the famous Interstate between Illinois & West Virginia. We toured through 7 states but not sure which state this one was taken in.

2: All this photo needs is the Fonz standing out front! Jacksonville Illinois.

3: Typical American houses in Jacksonville Illinois. VERY patriotic, every second house had an American flag flying.

4: This is how the mail is delivered! How cool!

5: At the carpark at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial at New Salem Illinois showing typical American cars these days. Theres still a lot of souped up chevies & T buckets etc kicking around though. My wifes niece rolled up in a mid 70s Chevy Nova with the big-block V8 with twin stokes/extractors etc...YUMMY!

Thanx for the images asimov. I get the impression that America is a significantly different culture from Australia despite people saying we are too Americanized? One question I would like answerd asimov, does America have roundabouts???

I never saw a roundabout while I was there, & I just asked my Wife & she tells me she's only ever seen one in St louis Missouri, a full city block in diametre apparently. Bear in mind she hasn't seen a lot of America either.

The only thing I saw remotely resembling a roundabout was trying to get on or off the interstate!! Had these huge 'loops'....but as you drove around this loop, you also rose in altitude...like a round bridge!

BTW what had me intrigued was the lack of fences between houses!! There was none.

They served 60s food too Andrew, lol. I thought about rocking up there on a Jap bike...But chose to jump on the back of my wifes sisters Harley instead!

I have spoken to several people who have been to the states and they never saw a roundabout there. The reason I ask is because some American programmes/ movies (European Vacation/ The Simpsons) make a big deal about travelling to the UK, driving there and getting stuck on roundabouts. But then again Britan has some HUGE roundabouts

Yep, the was a biggie near where I use to live west of London, the Langley exit from the M4, took a while to walk across to get to the Pub. (even longer to get home)

The other one cant remember exactly where wasnt the size but it was sort of two together the made a figure 8 so for the second half you went the 'wrong' way round it
