so.. how much of the color of these images is real? ie, we see M42 as grey and maybe greenish/blue (and according to some, pink).. if we were looking thru a GSO dob floating in space would we see the colors shown in this image or are they false/infra-red etc?

and another question..the article says its a mozaic of Hubble and ground-based images, why would they use ground based images? what would a telescope on Earth show that the Hubble couldn't see better with no atmosphere mucking things up?

May have to do with the detail each can pick up. Trapezium might be better from earth? Who knows? I know that Ken got 9 in there, without even trying.....

ps. I think the colours come from different filters, (H1, H2 etc).
