Hi John

So you are saying you plugged your new cordless system into another phone socket that does not have a DSL filter?

All phones connected thru a phone socket need a DSL filter (if you have ADSL). You just need to ensure the base station (of the cordless system) is plugged into a DSL filter then into the phone socket and if you are still using the older phone..that must have a DSL filter as well. The cordless handsets do not need filters as they communicate back thru the base unit only.

Ensure any filters are connected the "right way around". Some have qty 2 plugs: One "to the handset" ; the other "to the ADSL modem" (if req'd). Ensure you have connected them correctly.

Unless I am missing something...if you're plugging your phones into separate wall sockets I think you'll need more filters, one for each connection. Or are you saying that the cordless phone even when filtered causes your adsl to drop out?

John, you either need to make your filter a central filter (the filter you have is fine for that purpose, the term central is just a descriptive) or as the others say put an individual filter on each device.

If you want to rewire your connections for central filter, you need to feed the line (usually on the white/blue pair) in to the filter and then connect all the phones on the filtered side. The easiest way to do that is to wire the filtered side back through to the other sockets using the red/black pair after disconnecting the blue whites. Sounds complicated but in reality it's a simple enough task.

If you have a burglar alarm that has a dialler the filter should go before that.
