I thought that afocal meant just holding the camera upto the EP I am unsure to be honest what it really means or what prime focus means.

Yep, afocal is holding the camera at the eyepiece.

Prime Focus is when the camera replaces the secondary mirror, or in most cases these days, shoving the camera into the focuser (no eyepiece).
