Afocal Jupiter , first attempt :)

Hi everyone,
i know these pics are no way near the quality pics that what we usually have on iceinspace but i thought i would share my first attempt ever at imaging Jupiter afocaly!
Seeing was really bad and transparency was even wosre but still managed to take a couple of shots with my 10 inch Bintel using a 10m Telvue plossl and a tripod.I used Kodak Z812 IS for taking the shots.
The first two are one shot images and the third is a processed one using around 9 stacked images.

Looking at my images of Jupiter these are very good.

To get really good results you would need get a load more frames 1000 or more then process them. This is why some webcams or high frame rate CCD cameras are the best for planetary imaging. Low light is not as important for some larger planets either.

Well done I can see with those images the details could come out quite good. Even noticed a moon or two in the frame as well.

For single frames, they are really good. As Malcolms said, if you had a few hundred or a thousand and stacked & sharpened them, you would be amazed what you got.

Still better than most things I managed afocally!
Keep at and the learning curve grows, so does the need to progress.
It's all part of the fun.

That's a great start Paul. Getting anything afocal without all the right adapters to hold the camera is no mean feat.

I think the next step is to invest some money in a Powermate and take it from there! What would you guys recommend, a 2x or a 5x powermate ?
I'm thinking that a 5x would make it almost impossible to track anything on a DOB mount!

Yeah, at 5X you won't get much Better luck with the 2X + a few different length extension tubes..Of course, the next step if you seriously want to get into this is a tracking mount..

Is there any tracking mount that can support a 10 inch Bintel? The thing is huge!
