Lucky Hamilton controlled his car coming of the track, could have given Mark the winz. Nice win for Hamilton.
Second...that's still a great result and proves that Webber is a real competitor and emerging as one of the best. 4 wins already this year plus a really cool crash under his belt...this is certainly Webber's year. Up until now he's had nothing but bad luck thanks to an endless run of crap cars carking it on him constantly.
A great race that kept you on the edge of the seat until the end.
For example, when Hamilton came off into the gravel trap toward the end
of the race but managed to recover and rejoin the circuit, it was testimony
to how treacherous some parts of the circuit had become in the wet. At that
point, the real race battle was to manage to stay on the track and Mark did
well to pilot the Red Bull home and get second place.
In the de-brief, Mark mentioned some trouble they became aware of in
the warm-up lap with the clutch which they had attempted to correct by
changing a setting, but unfortunately it balked at the start and it seemed
like an eternity until he got going, by which time five other cars had streamed
past him.
Robert Kubica' being distracted as he changed the settings on his steering
wheel resulted in him being incorrectly aligned in the box when he pitted
and it cost him a position which also demonstrated how the race could turn
on the tiniest of errors.
It seemed at times if a driver did not manage to come off the track or damage
their car themselves, Sebastien Vettel was happy to oblige and do some
remodelling of their cars for them.
Looking forward to Monza where the in-car camera views on this phenomenally
fast track are always exciting to watch.
When it first started to rain & the leading 4 or 5 car went off the track in the hairpin "S" turn, Webber was the only one of the pack to correctly negotiate the turn. However he got no advantage from that. The others all cut the corner and IMO did get an advantage. I'm surprised there was no stewards inquiry in to it.
