Question Bosma Triplet ED 102mm

Gday everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had the chance to check out the new Bosma ED102 refractor available from Andrews? Any idea of how good it is optically and mechanically?

It does look good on paper...

Cheers

I have not seen one single review on these things.
I would be interested to see some feedback from an owner.

No one has taken the plunge yet?

For those of you who have delt with Andrews before, any idea of what their policy would be regarding returns ?

Also any idea if Andrews check its tubes before selling, especially for these gear coming from China where the quality can vary quite a bit?

Cheers

For the same cost you can get a Skywatcher ED120; for a lot less you can get the ED100 or ED80. The ED80 & ED120 are f/7.5 fpl53 doublets, produce nice images and have traditionally had good optics. There's more possibility for error with triplets built to a budget.

Thanks for the tip, but i'm looking for something compact, which rules out the SW100 (f/9) and even more the 120. I'm also looking for something with more aperture than an 80. The reason why I'm interested in the bosma is that with its 660mm focal length, it remains compact and packs a decent aperture.

I'm wondering if the bosma is built to a budget or if it's that retailers traditionally make a lot of money on this type of equipment. A bit of both I guess.

Everyone is protected under the fair trading act. It protects consumers who purchase anything under dont quote me around $49000 to have full warranty of 12 months. Refund or exchange can be claimed as long as the items is not as described, doesnt do what it is ment to, or simply faulty. Refund or exchange isnt honored for simple change of mind. Some place will thou, they are usually the bigger companies. I bought so EPs from andrews they had a manufacturing QC issue, I got my money back no worries.

I wouldnt thinks so due to the number of goods they would process day to day. They would more then likely hope the manufacturers QC is reliable

Andrews are pretty good about returns. If you had another scope to compare the new one to you could very quickly see differences in performance with which to justify returning a defective scope.

It's in Andrews interest to get a good sample of this scope out there for review - you could ask if they'd be prepared to test one for you prior to sale, checking for astigmatism, good color correction, spherical aberration, decentering, good resolution tested side-by-side with a scope of known quality.
