Jupiter Aug 12th 2010 in IR

Hi All,

Have just returned from the Queensland Astrofest yesterday afternoon and was badly in need of a imaging fix so captured Jupiter early this morning. All of the jetstream charts looked pretty crook and they were right.

My RGB's are not up to scratch and I really have only one 807nm IR image that I think is worth sharing. I need Bird to push some of that good Exmouth seeing a bit further East.

Thanks John, hadn't captured any data for a couple of weeks and when we got back from the Astrofest just had to have a go, pretty disappointing result but there was some detail in this IR.

Thanks Michael, yep, the weather has not been kind of late.
Isn't it amazing when its been like this for a while that even crook seeing starts to look "Not Bad".

Thanks Bird, I suppose the ultimate resolution to the local weather conditions is to try the other side of the continent, I know this bloke that did just that and things sure look promising for him.

Thanks Lester, on this particular night the IR was the only way of obtaining any level of resolvable detail, a most definitive statement on how crook the seeing was.

Thanks Paul, reckon your spot on. The high pressure systems are still coming across quite regularly but the worst of the jetsteam remains parked overhead.

Thanks Darren, of late it has been the path of the jetsteam more than the cloud that has been my problem. The way I look at it is that it all evens out in the end so I look forward to the run of bonza seeing that must be on the way.

It always warms my heart when somebody takes out their 807 nm filter to cut through some bad seeing. But I rarely see an 807 used to make a IRRGB image. So mine will stay in the box until Mars comes back. Keep up the good work Trevor. And send me some Rhodonite from Broken Hill to give to my Astronomer wife for her birthday when you get a moment! All I have is the tiny piece shown in my Avatar on Ice In Space!
