NGC 2442 (very dim galaxy in Volans)

Not good, but interesting for what data it hints at. I will give this another longer go and see if I can improve on it.

I've played around with it. I've lost a bit of detail I think.

When I first bought a DSLR I was told that they don't do galaxies well. They do do them but I think the intial statement may be a little true. Galaxies are harder to get out of the background. You need longer individual exposures, at least a coupleof minutes and then lots of them. A sum of 15 to 25 minutes isn't enough.

Paul, Nice shot. Apparently it's/they're interacting/colliding galaxies. 2442 & 2443. ~mag 10.4, surface brightness ~13.9. From CDC.
Kieken's pic brings out a bit more detail in them. One is @ 40/45 degrees to the other. L.
