When I first bought a DSLR I was told that they don't do galaxies well. They do do them but I think the intial statement may be a little true. Galaxies are harder to get out of the background. You need longer individual exposures, at least a coupleof minutes and then lots of them. A sum of 15 to 25 minutes isn't enough.
