M 17 Swan Nebula Coloured

Hi,

I'm sorry for continual posting of various morphologies of this object. This is a Ha ( 3 hours ) combined with RGB ( 1 hour each ). It is my effort that I am pretty happy with given the learning curves I am going through even if it ( colour ) is all wrong and processing.

I had an experience today Ron if you read this. I showed a student the Ha and told them that it was known as the Swan nebula to which she replied where is the swan. I am still not really certain but think I can see more of the true shape now.

Any feedback is more than welcome.

Mark

p.s. I won't post this again soon.

Nice one Mark

I think the Swan is a fairly subtle visual illusion - you've got way too much firepower there for it to come through. Maybe switch over to a 15" dob for the visual effect! (I could see it in dobs at the South Pacific SP ok)

I'm probably wrong, but I see it as per below.
This link with a much less sensitive pic shows it a bit more too I think.....

I never would have picked that but yes I can see it in the subtle one.

Rob ,as I wrote in a post a couple of weeks ago a lot of astro imagers don't look through their telescopes, here is a classical example of a person not knowing what the Swan Nebula looks like
No disrespect to you Mark
This image gives a better idea what it looks like

Mark don't apologise for reposting variations we (I) all do it

Keep at it this is showing a lot of promise

I have always thought it looked more like a duck than a swan, swans have long slender necks, ducks have shorter fater necks, like in your image. I guess "The Duck Nebula" doesn't quite have the same ring though

Ok I can't help myself.

This is my interpretation of the Swan...which surprisingly looks more like a Duck for some reason albeit one that's had half a wing shot off.

It's wabbit season, no it's duck season.

Nice image Mark, Don't worry about which beast it looks like, I can never see the resemblance myself. To me it always looks more like a prawn with a shell... Ha blending is one hard job to get right and I struggle every time I try it. Easy enough using the Ha as a lum layer but harder blending it with the colour channels. Keep at it.
