Yellow butterfly and roses/garden

I have been doing a couple of test shots when I can with my 50D and 17-55 F 2.8 in the garden over the last couple of days.

This morning I saw this lovely 'Yellow migrant' butterfly (Castopia gorgophone),in summer these are very fast flyers but this morning it was cool and damp,he was'nt warmed up,and I had to take advantage as the sun was also shining on a good angle.I took these quick photos and have done some cropping, and thought I would post for bimbo critique, while I did'nt buy this lens for macro,I thought I'd test it out on this beautiful butterfly.speed 2000,iso 250,f 5.6

Also a few of our garden, the two roses, one is at F3.5 and had a circular polarizer on.It came with lens ,as a extra so thought I'd try it out.The last photo-just a general garden view-not the best quality-I had to put image through shrinker twice it was a 10 mp image in jpeg.

Ok,thanks for looking, and look forward to some feed back on these images with the new kit.

cheers Chris

Chris,

The first and third images are scorchers.

Just love the bright yellow of the butterfly contrasted with the gorgeous blue bokeh background.

re butterfly

Thank you kindly,Humayan-it is nice to get some feed back from a photographer who is very experienced, such as yourself.

Yes,the third is the one crop I was really happy with,I was going to go back on my post and mention, that I thought it was the better one.But glad you noticed.Yes that blue bokeh is lovely-winter skies, Humayan-they are just so good for that (when its not cloudy)

The photos, are just basic test shots really,no PP,I just wanted to test the equipment.I have set the settings in camera, and it seems to be a very lovely body.the menu lay-out is excellent, and raped fire button is a hoot! around 6.5 frames a second!Today I recieved Micnova hand strap for the body.

I meant to say the 17-55 lens had a Hoya UV filter on in the above photos.

I will post some photos hopefully in the future of a better standard,I am now taking photos in RAW and learning(or trying to learn manipulation).
