TEC have started shipping their 110mm fluorite triplet "Eclipse" F5.6.

Here is a photo:

I have already ordered one and I guess this means I will be notified in the near future about it.

$US4,500 for the first production run (probably more for later ones). That includes the scope OTA and mounting ring.

crap well I'm out then.

I suppose a good mount, finder, diagnal etc will put another 2k on top of that.

An apo of this size/FL on a good alt-az would seriously make the perfect grab n go setup.

Yes first production run is US$4500. If you want a field flattener for it (a must for imaging) then that is extra, I think its about US$750 but not sure on that.

It is very likely to go up but perhaps not by a lot as Yuri believes in being economical and is not a gouger. But it is a fluorite triplet with fluorite from Schott Glass in Germany.

What is a Tak FCT 100 worth? That's the comparable scope (10mm less aperture and slower F ratio).

Yuri redid the lenses as the glass from O'Hara (the ED glasses) had slightly different characteristics than their brochure and the testing showed colour optimised for red only. So he redid the optics. He does not compromise on quality.

Yeah I guess so. 106mm versus 110mm, nothing in that. ED glass versus fluorite which is like 106N versus 106ED. F5 versus F5.6.

Triplet versus quadruplet petsval.

Be an interesting shootout. I'll do a comparison when I get mine and do a review comparing them.

Greg.
