Stock lens (or other) for a 40D

I broke the stock 18-55 lens that came with the 40D and am looking to replace it.

I have another one on a 350D but im sick of swapping around.

Im open to a different/better one eg lower F, fixed FL, small zoom (but not a 75-300, I already have one), but not too expensive.

A stock 18-55 would be the 1st choice, but tempt me
