Explaining a pie floater to the kids

I was just telling the kids about the famous dish, "pie floater".
They looked at me like I was an idiot LOL
ANYONE remember this dish?

edit: Also Haggis

Yummmm ..... pie floater

Meat pie floating in a bowl of mushy peas with lashings of tomato sauce on top. Especially nice at the end of a night on the town.

Not into Pie Floaters, but Haggis!!!

The first and only time I've ever had Haggis was in a pub at a small fishing town called Ullapool in Scotland...and it was sensational.

The only way to explain a pie floater is to give them one.
Of course it helps if you have had the required number of beers first.
You might have to wait til they are old enough.

Both have to be eaten early in the morning after liberal quantities of beer having been consumed.
On second thoughts - scrub the haggis.

Haggis Ingredients:

1 sheep's stomach bag
1 sheep's pluck - liver, lungs and heart
3 onions
250g beef Suet
150g oatmeal
salt and black pepper
a pinch of cayenne
150mls of stock/gravy

Haggis Cooking Directions:

1. Clean the stomach bag thoroughly and soak overnight. In the morning turn it inside out.

2. Wash the pluck and boil for 1.5 hours, ensuring the windpipe hangs over the pot allowing drainage of the impurities.

3. Mince the heart and lungs and grate half the liver.

4. Chop up the onions and suet.

Hi,

There was a cafe in Glebe Pt Rd used to serve them, a great wide bowl with a pie in thick pea soup.

I went there with my 3 sons (remember that TV show....c'mon) and ordered first. The pie listed and sank from sight. They said "What now?"

They were converted to KFC.

Cheers

Ya Don't know what your missing , mushy peas and a pie , its almost healthy
( overlooking the odd bit of ofal in the pie).. It could only get better with an island of mash nudgeing up against that little bit of pastry goodness and of course more sauce.

I had a pie floater once, then tried to ride a bike afterwards.
Memorable!

As for Haggis...well I've had a lot of that!
I could say that it's done me no harm, but the avatar tells a different story!
