The Many Faces of Centaurus A

I was surprised to stumble upon this page at a dedicated web site and given the infamy of my deep Centaurus A shot...I thought I'd share it with my IIS buddies .

Some may remember "The Many Faces of Centaurus A" was an international conference held in Sydney, Australia, June 28 - July 03, 2009.

During the conference, six "Faces" of Cen A were displayed via large posters along the walls in the conference room and featured images by ESO, Chandra, VLA, DSS, GALEX, Spitzer aaaand yep, Sidonio .

Mine is the first poster in the list (top of page) but the ionised gas poster by Simon Ellis et al you see there also has a portion of my image in it too, which I was most chuffed to discover

I knew what my poster looked like but to finally see the other 5 posters that my Centaurus A shot shared the walls with at this international event is most gratifying and even humbling.

Click on the image to display a larger (2x) version or if you're game and want to see the full poster size, click on the link to the full mega pixel version under each thumbnail.

That notorious Cen A image of mine just wont lie down huh?.....

Here's the link to the six posters http://www.mpe.mpg.de/~hcs/Cen-A/cen-a-pictures.html

You can also see my poster at a more manageable large size at my web site (1.7meg) here: http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...71308/original

Cheers

Mike

Wow, what a stunning collection of images Mike, thanks so much for posting them, and congratulations on having your work included. You must indeed be chuffed at that, and understandably so. The full size versions are certainly worth the wait. I know what will be adorning my desktop computer at work on Monday! I was looking at Cen A the last two nights with the humble 12", wondering what gigantic forces were at work. Seeing the galaxy in various electromagnetic wavelengths shows just how complex this area is. You could spend a lifetime studying just this one galaxy. It makes me feel like a microbe in comparison!

Cheers guys

The big posters must have looked great lining the walls of the confernece. I did get a few of the astronomers to pose in front of my poster and take a photo and send it to me just for my record but to think that an image of mine hung in such auspicious company and on the World stage is pretty dam cool

And Paul, I hope to have a good squiz at her at SPSP next week too

I know "you" were only being lightherated Chris but some will indeed see this post exactly as you have just suggested but ya know what.? I don't care

I guess I see IIS members like a big group of friends so it's not self promotion or big noting but rather just something I hope I can share with my like minded friends without fear of being accused of hubris . We should all be encoraged to tell others when something has occured that they are proud of or that they found flattering rather than be made to feel we have to keep such things to to ourselves for fear of sounding like an egotistical boster . I know "I" enjoy hearing about others successes and recognitions . When somone posts something like I have here a reply to it shouldn't be seen as bolstering the posters ego but rather just sharing in the excitment...afterall things like this don't happen to guys like us everyday

Hope that didn't sound like a soliloque (sp?) hence all the laughing emoticons

Mike

Hi Mike,

Yes, I was being Cheeky! of course, I always am.

Hey, blowing your own trumpet is everyone's God given right! Who else is gunna do it for you? I often go and tell everyone who is nearby (whether they care or not!) when I have done something worthy of bragging and this is definitely worthy my friend...

Especially when it's something as cool as that!!!!!!

Oh, and its soliloquy! Missed it by that much!

Keep em coming,

Cheers

Chris

Cheers Anthony (who has had just about the ultimate Qudos of all!), Scott and Peter

I just found another site with links to the conference posters, this time at the CSIRO. Seems the full size posters are avialable in a few places and I have only just realised
