Question Who does the 300D mod?

After seeing Tony's results with the 20Da I'm seriously considering getting my 300D modded. I'm aware that it won't be quite the same and that there will be difficulties with white balance and autofocus but this camera is pretty much strictly for astrophotography.

So the big question is....does anyone know of a modifier in the SE-Qld area?

I'll do it for you!! I need one to practice on before I do it to mine!!... No guarantees though!
There is a fellow here in Gissy that did it, and said it was "easy bro". And it probably is fairly easy, just I can't afford to bugger mine up, so haven't bothered yet...
Cheers

I'd give myself 99% chance of success. There are good instructions here http://ghonis2.ho8.com/rebelmod.html
But it is the 1% chance of f'ing it up that worries me...
I said I'd do in after the warrantee on the camera expired... Well that was in March!... Still taking good shots with the filter in, so still plenty out there to shoot with the camera as is...
Cheers

Thanks for te links Stuart. I would really like to find someone in Aus/SE-Qld preferably. The cost of shipping OS and Back agin is a killer at times. Plus it would be nice to have someone local if I needed o send it back for any reason.

Ive done it to 2 cameras now and its not too bad so logn as you follow all isntructions in ghonis post earlier.

Real tricky part is the ribon cables. First go both times I did it I got the dreaded blank screen, but then went back and re seated the cables and all was well.

Plan a whole night with a white sheet on the table and go slow!!!!!

Regards
Chris Venter

thanks for that Chris.

Robby are you listening to this.

There is no way I would be game Chris. I'm more used to working with powersaws. chainsaws, tractors, brushcutters, nailing guns etc. I shudder to think of the mess I would make of it

I reckon postage would be around 80au one way , expensive yes but least your getting it done by people who probably have insurance and the experience to get it done properly without the risk of potentially wrecking a friendship etc .

All jokes aside.
I agree with Beren.
The cost of friendship, even remote, pales when you can get it done professionally.
I doubt postage to the US would be as much as that even,
I reckon about AU$80 return.

I have had a look at the Hutech site, but its a bit steep unfortunately. $500 US plus postage makes it a very pricey option. Especially when a new Modded 350D camera from them is only $1350 US. Hell I could get a modded 20D for $2000. ......Ahhhh I see now Gary. You want me to put my Camera up for sale to fund a new one and you snap up my old one. Ha! Won't work mate. Either that or you like seeing mates going into bankruptcy
