Just a question about Registax 3.....just having trouble when I have for example a Mars image that has been derived and stacked from a AVI and its presented in the Wavelet processing section the colour and brightness is maximised and looks unatural. Ive tried a few things in the capture settings {K3CCDtools}that dim the image but i still cant seem to get a decent end result even though in the intial stages of the registax processing progress looks promising .....hope this makes sense
Hi Stuart, have you tried dropping the colour channels in the wavelet page under the histogram tab (red? or using the estimate tab under the channel sliders). How about moving the left hand slider of the histogram slightly to the right (halfway to the next grid square) and then stretch the histogram and then try the colour channels. Then try dropping the contrast and brightness.
Yeah Paul ive tried and experimented with those settings but havent been satisfied , ive tried experimenting with the number of frames a AVI has {iE;150-2000} and i get similar results . Its frustrating because on the capture screen its looking sweet , the colour is looking realistic and detail pops in and out . Ive used the reference frame option in Registax for processing to {50 frames} and in the AVIs i used that option the reference frame looked a lot better then the final pre wavelet example.......
If I capture with the image looking sweet on the laptop I end up with total over exposure by the time I'm into the wavelett page. So now I get it nice on the laptop & turn the gain down brightness down so the capture image is pretty dull looking. Of course, I'm no expert at this, so I'm still experimenting with settings etc.
Heres a couple of images , unfortunately i deleted the other AVIs that highlight the feature prominently and these two come from a AVI that i toned down the brightness so the final wasn't s bright as the previous attempts
They both look great Stuart, so what's the problem? Can you post what they look like after wavelets?
If you can upload an avi (or send me a CD?) I'll have a go at processing it for you?
I find that for Mars, I set the white level indicator on K3CCD around 150. During my processing (including AstraImage) it usually gets brighter so I tend not to start too bright.

Like Mike, I usually set the gain, exposure etc so light indicator in K3CCD is running around 150 or even lower which will look quite dull on the screen.
I agree, they look good, but the "pre-wavelet" concept may not be true, as when you use the reference frame, you are presented with the final image and the reference frame wavelet settings. Is this the "reset" version, or the reference frame setting Stu?
Maybe Beren has the histo-stretch option enabled in the stacking page? I have trouble with registax sometimes over-brightening my stacked image with that option enabled, so I usually try and stack with histo-stretch turned off.
If I have a dark image then I'll turn histo-stretch on so I can see the result, but most of the time I then have to open the brightness/contrast window and drop the brightness to something like -20.
