Trouble with Bintel website

Anyone else having trouble accessing the Bintel website? I've got some Christmas cash I'm waiting to blow and can't seem to get on

Yep...off line for last few days..maybe lowering their prices for $Aust increase

Anyway...I'm more concerned that you're in Sydney yet the IIS "distance" caculation has you around 15,000Klms+ from me... in Melbourne!

Here is a screen Grab from the way I see it!

I think it calculated the long way around!

Edit:

grammar correction...the use of "your"..."you're"! Silly me.

I've emailed Don Whiteman and I'm sure they will have it up before long.

I'm more of less in Sydney and it says he's 15,831km from me. If a few people supplied their locations and his distance we could work out where he "claims" to be.

I guessed 0 deg E, 0 deg N and my great circle calculator gives a distance of 15184.79km.

It's because I haven't set my latitude & longitude. I assure you I am in Sydney!

The rhumb line and the great circle are the same - if you are flying. But you need two ends. 33.80S 151.00E is not here, but is not that far away.

From 33.80S 151.00E to 0.00N 0.00W
The bearing is 224.90 degrees
The great circle distance is 15179.63 Km

Sailing the rhumb line is something like Sydney - 600km - Wilsons Promontary - 10500km - Cape Town - 4200km - 0N 0W

So about 15300km. Not that different because of the curvature of the earth.

It was only a joke but a Rhumb line & great circle are not the quite same in navigation....the bearings of each differ.
