Night flowering cactus. One night only.

One of my cacti, only flowers for one night. The next day the flower stays open, then wilts that night. Some times the variety has more than one flower, this one only produced the single stem this year.

It has a very strong smell similar to gardenias. I bought it into my bedroom and it filled it immediatley with the strong sent.

I should have used more lighting, as I would have loved to illuminate down into the flower more.
I managed to get a few shots... Well 300 actually...
This is one of the better ones.. Taken with a nifty 50.

Thanks for looking.

No problems. Yes not only are they exquisite, they are almost remarkable. A spiney some what boring plant, sprouts a beautiful flower.

Thanks JJJ. I take it you share an interest? Do you keep many yourself? I have around 8 different types. I don't keep many grafted species. I prefer naturally flowering species. I graft myself, and have a "bush" on root stock growing in a garbage bin.

I really enjoy cacti, it seems to be the only plant I can't kill. Well most of the time. I can't get enough of the flowers.

Edit~ *"WoOT"* 600 posts!!

I'm gradually building up my collection of cacti again.
I posted a cactus flower of mine a while ago. I'll see if I can find it.
ATM I have a kind friend who is giving my all sorts of orchids, they have gorgeous flowers too.

Oh! Please do post it here, if you can find it!

Orchids are beautiful too. My Grandmother past away last year and I recently went to her house before selling to retrieve her rock orchid collection. I have them at my house now in the trees and rocks. Very special plants indeed.
