Defying Gravity (SciFi Series)

Downloaded and watched the first 2 eps , so far pretty much of a yorn , too many dambed flashbacks , and what's with the crying baby that only one crew member (the sexy chick) can hear, and what's with the "haunting" and the ship doing things it shouldn't ???

Got eps 3 and 4 and 5 downloaded , I hope the muddled plot clears up soon else I'll not be bothering to download more.

Also , instanteous comms from interplanetary space ships is impossible .... don't the script writers know this ?

Gravity clothes .... give me a break .... that's dumb.

I think your being a little bit nit picky. Remember this is 40+ years into the future, so who knows what technical advances could come. Afterall, just look at the last 40 years of history and advances we've made in not just technology, but also our understanding of the universe and how things work.

And also, didn't Star Trek and just about every other Sci Fi deal with instant communication and gravity in their own way? Way can't you accept the way they've dealt with it? It's Science Fiction correct?

As for the "haunting" and the crying baby she hears, this will all be explained later. It all has to do with "Beta". I won't go any further as it's too hard to explain without giving away too much of the plot.

At any rate, the future of the series is all up in the air since it's not getting the ratings ABC America hoped for. In all likelyhood, it doesn't look good for going on beyond Season 1.

I get what you mean about the flashbacks, very annoying, but it get's used less and less as the series go on. I think what they are trying to do is tell the story of the history of these people and give them background, while keeping the mission going. Otherwise you would have to devote even more episodes to them just being on Earth training and preparing which would be even more boring. Shows only have one Season (if that!) to prove themselves so the main storyline has to go somewhere.

Anyway I'm enjoying it. I'm up to Episode 10 out of a total of 13, then we'll just wait and see what happens. Either way, I'm looking forward to Episode 12 when they finally land on Venus.

I have watched 12 episodes now.
I am a sucker for sci-fi shows where the characters cannot simply understand/interface with/fix technology that is hundreds of thousands or millions of years ahead of ours.

anyway, the flashbacks seem to slow the episodes down a bit but do give the characters some back-story. Characterisation is good and the actors carry it all off well. I also think that the stresses and cracks you see in their characters is developing slowly, which seems to me to be more realistic than in a lot of other shows, where characters ride on emotional rollercoasters.

Although there seem to be some weak points in the story I do want to know more of what is happening but doubt this series will get a look in past season 1 (maybe 2). Having said that, I wonder if the writers have a good idea of where the story is going or will they just make it up as they go along.

I don't think this series will go past Season 1 to be honest. The way the last few episodes have come out in drips and drabs, suggests they are using the last remaining episodes as a "filler" when they have nothing else to show. They wouldn't do that if the they were giving the show another chance with a second season.

We will see the last episode aired, the question is when.

On a side note, probably deserves a thread of it's own, but I was just on the ABC America web site looking for information on the last episode, and they are advertising this new series which looks pretty interesting. It's called "V".

http://abc.go.com/shows/v/

Apparently Channel Nine will be showing it at some stage according to Wiki.

Have to look out for the pilot at all the usual places this week.

Not watched my downloaded copy of Ep12 yet.

Not downloaded Ep13 yet.

I don't think much of what I've seen of Defying Gravity S01 so far.

To much religion and religious and psychic rubbish for my likings.

So far if I was rating it I'd give it :

Story : 2/5
Plot : 1/5
SEffects : 1/5
Characters : 1/5

Visitors is what I think you referring to.

Just a rehash of V from the 1970s. About repilian aliens who come to earth and pretend they are friendly only long enough to us stupid humans to lower our guard , and they then taken over the running of the planet and start harvesting earths water , and resources , and taking people away (as llvestock , humans are only seen as a food source).

Was a crap series originally so I don't hold much hope the new series will be any better , apart from better special effects.

Still looks interesting. I'm too "young" to know the original (was born mid-70's) so I guess I'll have no preconceptions of what it will be like since it's new to me. I'm happy to give it a go.

Says a lot for the offerings on TV , I'd rate the networks even lower, that I've persisted with it (hoping it'll improve), I probably wont for much longer unless I get really desperate.

Our TV spends most it's time when on tuned to SBS or ABC, nothing on the commercials I'm the least bit interested in unless they show a movie or a fshing show.

E12 was nearly all flashbacks .... hopeless .... boring ....

I'll finish torrenting E13 and I'm ditching the series after I watch it.

Not worth watching.
