PHD update question please
Hi Guys, seeing that i have had a few PHD problems of late, and now that I have serviced the G11 and it is good health, would it be a good idea to update to the latest version or PHD as well.
I'm at the moment running version 1.9.0, and the new update is presently 1.11.0, or wouldn't this necessary.
Thank You.
Leon

I reckon stick with the one you had been using Leon, and if the "problem" disappears then it was likely the lack of service.
I also read somewhere that the latest version of PHD was a little twitchy at the moment. This will get ironed out of course, but if V1.9.0 was doing it, why update, at least straight away?

If 1.9.x works for you don't bother changing. There are a fair amount of changes in the 1.10.x batch with some interesting new features but the parameters have to be tweaked slightly different from the previous versions. But it still works very well too. As Gary said compare the mount pre/post lubing with the same version, then upgrade if need be.

Hey Leon, if you want to do a bit of testing instead of freezing your n**s off or waste a clear night outoors you can do indoor tracking with this . Haven't tried it myself but it can't hurt and I will give it a go. All you need is a screen and a 5m corridor to reach focus. Clear nights are way to scarce to waste lately.

Hey Marc,
Looks like a fantastic product, lots of pretty pictures and all, can you tell us what it does?
Typical bloody Frog, thinks everyone can read his native tongue.
How about a translation for us Aussies.

 Here's the short aussie translation:
"yeah, chuck it right on the star and she'll be right! no waccas!..."
Seriously I haven't tried it yet Trev. Just installed it. It displays a short image of stars on your screen and shifts it so you can track it with a webcam or guider. You need to be out 5m or more to focus. That's all. I reckon it's great to compare different PHD settings and what how they effect tracking under controlled conditions. Unbalance the mount then see what happens. Try different meshing, clutch pressures. Good test bed in the comfort of your home for different PHD aggressiveness, Hysterisis and what not - while it's raining. You just got a brand new G11 yeah? Get crackin'

Google doesn't seem to do a bad job of it.
http://http://translate.google.com/ paste in the URL and set French->English. Don't think me pasting the generated link here would work.

I use an external usb hard drive to do a full backup of my system before I try a new version, easy to roll back
Cheers

I really like the disclaimer at the bottom of the page....
ATTENTION : je ne pourrais être tenu responsable des crises de nerfs de votre compagnon/compagne
quand vous passerez toutes vos nuits y compris celles où il pleut à faire de l'autoguidage en chambre !
NOTE: I cannot be held responsible for any of your partner/spouse's nervous breakdowns when you are spending all your nights, including the rainy ones, doing auto-guiding in the bedroom.

PHD and this new "indoor guiding"
The new version of PHD 1.11 seems to be working much better than previous versions, but i will always update software when possible. I did have lots of annoying little hiccups with older versions of PHD.
Also using Google translator for the disclaimer on the SGE-Star Guiding Emulator website produced:
WARNING: I could not be held responsible for tantrums of your pet / companion When you spend all your nights including when it rains to make the homing Room!

Don't you love computers. That's why we should be a wee bit worried they drive planes all by themselves
