Jup Oct 17th in fair to good seeing.

Hi All,
Just got back to Broken Hill after a couple of weeks holidaying at Hindmarsh Island, Goolwa. Had a couple of nice days in the first week out and about on our boat but the weather for the last week was foul.

Got straight back into imaging Jupiter on my first night back home, it really was great to see the stars again, I think I have gained a new appreciation of how good the night sky is out here in the outback.

I have attached two RGB images, captured in seeing 6 to 7 / 10.

In the first image there are at least 10 white ovals visible in the STrZ and South polar region. The SEB is characterized by 6 bright red spots or barges, other than the barges the SEB is very quite. The NEB displays a great deal of activity, indeed.

In the second image, oval BA is at the CM and there are 7 white ovals still visible in the STrZ and South polar region. The amount of rotation of the planet from the previous image has 4 of the red barges still visible in the SEB. There is some very nice structures in the active NEB and I have highlighted the red spot in the NNTrZ that is the result of the merger that occurred in late Sept. (I have previously posted images of the actual merger back around Sept 28th)

Thanks for looking.
Regards
Trevor

Hi Trevor

Gosh – they are beautiful images! Your holiday certainly hasn’t affected your imaging skills and techniques for this gas giant – top stuff!

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis, it really does help a lot to regularly have access to reasonable seeing.

Top images again Trevor. It must be cyclone season in the south of Jupiter at the moment, don't think I have seen so many white spots in the same image.

Great image, and the labels are a nice touch. At Goolwa you were only a step away from Paul's place at Clayton where the seeing can be exceptional.

Thanks Lester, these white spots do seem to be quite prolific at the moment. They would look really great if the seeing was just a tad better.

Thanks David, glad you liked them. I really do strive to get the most out of my equipment and processing for whatever conditions the weather dishes up.

Thanks Graeme, yes, we visited Paul, had a most interesting morning and checked out his setup.

Thanks Mike, I would consider this to be about the average seeing, generally for my location, however from time to time it can be a lot better.

Nice looking image Trevor! I've been busy or too tired to get the scope out lately, and haven't looked at Jupiter for a few weeks. I'll have to get back out there and have a look!

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks Stephen, Jupiter is really very well placed quite early in the evening now. An ideal time to observe it.
