Help me pick a target for new moon weekend.

Hey all..

Just probing your minds for ideas.. This coming new moon, im headed to dark skies for two nights and do not know yet what I'm going to image... I figure I've got lots of time, and a relatively fast optical system.. So I'd like to image something dim and obscure. The issue is this... I dont know what to go for... I have a fairly epic field of view, 169.2 x 112.5 arc min, so whatever I image needs to be fairly big to be worth doing...

So, what are peoples thoughts... I was thinking about a dark nebula, or a dusty area etc... I plan to spend some time later in the night on M42 (ie. when its high enough to image until dawn on both nights) but it wont be high enough until say 0230hrs, so I've got from 1900hrs till 0230hrs to fill up..

Suggestions!?

Interesting David... I'll have a look for some more info.. it looks a little small for my FOV, however I might be able to get it and the crescent nebula in one image.. that could be interesting!

Vela Supernova remnant is good this time of year.

Or Tarantula Neb area.

Have a look through John Gleason's collection of Ha images for ideas as well.

Mmmmmm Tasty... the SNR looks like it would really take some exposure! however thats kind of what im looking for! I'll dig up the RA and DEC of the area I want to image over the next few days! Cheers Greg...
