These elegent birds migrate from New Geuniea/Indonesia in winter

and back in summer,i have seen these in Brissy,near the golf

course at Indooroopilly.

They are difficult to photograph,as usually very high up in dead trees,

The last pic the bird was over two hundred metres away.

Apart from crop and reduction,no PPP

Very nice Chris. From the depth of focus, bokeh and image quality I’d say these were taken with a Canon 400mm F5.6L lens! LOL!

Thanks for the feedback,i will have a play around with pics and try

and upi load bigger ones,i am afraid my computer skills are'nt

as good as my skills with that L 400 lens,Yes Dennis you were right,

I have it attached nearly permanatly to camera these days!.

The pics were taken hand held,no lean,i am so suprised with sharpness

taken with a long length camera,hand held,that has no IS,i really expected to be using tri pod a lot more.

Unfortunatly these will be last tweet pics for a while,working all this

week-ten hour shifts,so only work and sleep.but by the weeks end

it will be time to play with L400 again,this time i will be aiming

for the stars,so hope to post some cluster pics,in about ten days.

Great pics Chris.
I used to work at Coolangatta airport and at certain times of the year I used to observe many of these birds living in the bank of a small area of water with reeds that ran parallel to the main taxiway at the Northern End of the airport. They were amazing birds and so colourful. If you were ever on the Gold coast you would be able to get a lot closer than 200 meters. I didnt know what type of bird they were for awhile but once I researched them their tails and colour are a dead givaway.

Great photos that invoked some good memories of watching them a few years ago.

I seem to have these little fellas at my place a lot, perched high on the wires, so colourful but hard to get a good shot ... unless you have a BIG lens!!!
