Fault Finding - New Baader UV/IR Filter

Hi Guys,

I have been researching on the new lines of Baader UV/IR Filter version 2.

The new filter model number is 2459210A (420nm - 680nm) 2".

I have found that this particular Baader UV/IR filter does not cut Infrared range properly.

The new Baader direct replacement filters for Canon DSLR's (ACF/BCF) uses the same coatings but just cut down to size for a direct replacement the original filter.

If you look at the attached PDF file, the old UV/IR filter cuts IR from 700nm to 1200nm whereas the new UV/IR filter cuts IR from 700nm to 1100nm only.

The 1100nm range has to be cut entirely otherwise there will be an IR leak.

Can others confirm my fault finding is true? or have heard about this from others?

I have emailed Baader regarding this issue and they claimed that the new UV/IR cuts IR completely. But then, their graph doesn't indicate this at all?

I have also tested my canon 40D with the ACF filter replacement and it doesn't cut IR at all.

Maybe Baader don't want to recall their new UV/IR filters cost them too much?

IR cut-off

Eric,
Interesting observation!
If I can get the chance I'll put the Baader on the spectroscope and see if I can measure the actual cut-off. The only CCD's I have which might get out to 1100nm is the webcam and or the MX7C.
Keep you posted.
(BTW the ROSCO UV-IR appears ( at least on paper!) to cut everything above 700nm)
