Lightbulb Asronomy Lingo Made Simple

Hi all,

Our new member Madge made me realise how much we talk in a lingo that would confuse most newbies.

Here is a place where you can talk astronomy in plain language.

I'll start the ball rolling.

"The other night I decided to look at the little fuzzy blob just to the right of the big fuzzy blob which is next to another bigger fuzzy blob, you know the ones, they look like 2 clouds that never blow away.

When I looked, the image was too big and faint so I took out the funny round thing with 6mm written on it and put in another little tube with 20mm written on it.

After turning the knobs on the little tube mover I finally got to see the little blob. It has Gazillions of little stars in it! WOW!

I thought I would look at the full moon to see if I could see where the Astronauts landed.

I turned the telescope to point at the moon but I couldn't see it.

Every time I moved the scope it went the wrong way. I thought it must be broken. For some reason someone also stuck a tiny telescope on the top of my big scope so I thought I would look through that one. Hey, I found the Moon, and boy it's bright.

Now that I had found it in the little scope I hoped it would be in the big scope too.

Yep it was.

That was three days ago, and I am glad to say that I am beginning to get the sight back in my left eye.

Can't wait to get out and try again in a week or too . . . when the puss dies down.

Signed, Happy Beginner.
