A few "quick and dirty" pics from earlier this month, just before full moon. These are my first ever shots of the Eagle and Swan nebulae. Very impressive objects, and quite exciting for me seeing them appear on the screen for the first time, so I'll definitely be returning for longer efforts.
I was very pleased with how these relatively short exposures came out in the end considering the moonlight and lights of surburbia, although obviously no competition for some of the beautiful long exposure shots others have posted here. I just love my Hutech light pollution filter...
Eagle 4 x 3mins
Omega/Swan 6 x 3 mins
Triffid 6 x 3 mins
All by 450D@ISO 400 + MPCC on 8" Newt, calibrated, autoguided.
Three very nice images for such a short exposure period Rob. I have to agree with you that longer exposures or at least a lot more of them will improve your overall result.
Thanks Frank - Davewaldo and I bought one each from Peter Tan (Hong Kong). Bit over $200 at the time, but worth it to be able to image from the city.

My 2" IDAS showed up on Monday, but I'm too lazy to unpack the trailer and try it out
Triffid seems blue, is this the filter?
The LPS does accentuate the blue and green Robin - blue particularly. Its pretty easy to tame though when you're setting the black pt - just have to keep an eye on pulling them in after stretching. I seem to recall Eric Lo saying same time ago the Hutech is much easier to tame colour-wise than many harsher UHC filters

Thanks Chris. I haven't been able to visualise anything in M16 from the city, so pleased at what I got near full moon. Hope the weather obliges you when the time comes!

Many thanks Marc and Clive. I suspect I'll have to figure out some way of marking where the camera sits for additional exposures, or I'll end up with 2 sets of "Newt spikes". Will probably start over from scratch if decent opportunity presents.

The Hutech LPS filters are one of the best pieces of equipment you can purchase for imaging. Wouldn't image without one now.

I'm into it as we speak Rob!! got the new rig all up and running, guiding away nicely! 13x5 min + 2x20min shots of M8 so far... All looking the goods for tomorrow night thats for sure!

My list includes The Helix, NGC 253, M27 and if I go the distance M31 and M33.
Even if I only get 1/2 hours worth on each I'll be more than happy.
JJJ... I too am very keen to try and hold out for M31 or M33.. If I could get 3~5 5 min subs of either I'd be happy for the time being!
Helix MAY be my interim target between when M20 hits the meridian and when M33 breaks 25°... 253 might help fill that void too I suppose... Or maybe the Veil complex... Ahhh the choices that need to be made!! I'm so disorganised!
Rob.. Processing is underway.. got darks/flats/bias frames all in tow.. Hopefully I got the focus right! hahaha
