Barlows

Hi Champs,
Can anyone tell me how a 2 inch GSO barlow performs. I had a look at one on the weekend and they look pretty impressive to me , but can anyone advise me if they are worth owning.
Hope everyone is behaving themselves,
Rastis.

hello Rastis, l have one and think it performs very well, at least in my 12" sct with both 2" and 1 1/4 ep's, i don't know how they perform compared to powermates but l assume they are not as good but they are nowhere near the cost either.

I'll be interested to know the verdict on this question. I'm on the look out for a half decent 2" barlow myself. Is it a 2x or 3x barlow that you are thinking of purchasing?

I've got one and am very happy with it. Never had any experience with any others though.

I own one and I am happy with it. But like the others above I have never compared it with another make . Mine is the 2x

It is excellent in combination with the 2" GS 30mm SuperView. I have used it with my 1 1/4" EP's as well.

I use it in my GS 12" dobbie.

I bought the GSO 1 1/4" 2x barlow, when I purchased the scope. I'm happy with it, but I can see me buying more 2" EP's as they are soooo comfy to use while wearing glasses.
Can you get an adaptor to use the 1 1/4 eps in the 2" barlow?

I guess the easiest way to answer this is that you get what you pay for.
I have looked through a gso 2 inch barlow and can say that there is a definate difference in sharpness clarity and scatter between that and a good quality one.

Dave47Tuc recently bought a UO 2 inch barlow for about $150 which works a treat, but have since heard that they are no longer available .

JJJ - You should be able to use the 2" / 1.25" adaptor that came with your focusser. I believe Frontier Optics has these if you want another adaptor.

I am using the University Optics 2" barlow, which I love, with my 1.25" eps using my original adptor. it may be a little easier to use if I had a spare adaptor to leave in the barlow.

The GS 2" 2x Barlow comes with a 1 1/4" adaptor.

A very well made 'locking' one. It fits just like a 2" EP. Slide it in and tighten the EP lock screw. It doesn't just sit there. The GS 2" is Fully Multi-Coated and has blackened inner sufaces (very important).

Here is a pic I just took showing the parts. Barlow at 2" with 1 1/4" adaptor and dust covers for each end. It is the GS 2" 2x.

The only other barlow I have is made of the finest plastic and aluminium. The GS barlow is exquisite by comparison. LOL

I've used a 2" GS barlow of David's (Westsky) I thought it performed rather well for
what it is, even cleaned up the EFOV of my 30mm SV. Still I think I will go for powermates next time I invest in barlows.

regards,CS
