what not to do with your computer keyboard

Hi

20 minutes ago I clicked on the internet to see what was on. I did not see a book resting on the Enter key. By the time I saw what the problem was I had 57 windows of explorer open. Rather than crash the computer I decided to close them all one by one. 10 minutes later I had the computer back in my control.

I've had similar problems caused by a cat that likes to sleep next to my mousemat. Every now and then the paw gets stretched out and rests on the keyboard.

If I posted a photo of my home office, it would show the fax machine next to the printer next to the keyboard next to the LCD screen next to my small office desk space.

Once, I made a coffee and did the unthinkable.
I spilled the coffee on the keyboard and all over my desk and printer and notes on the desk........

About a few weeks later, I also spilled some Red Wine in the same place.
Not a pretty sight.
Now I have a crappy cheap keyboard that ddoesn't care if I spill some stuff on it.

Hi Mike

That was the real cause! I had cleaned up the desk. I needed the book so I had moved it around to clear the rest of the junk. Next ime I won't bother to clear the desk.

And this is why Windows sucks, on a *nix it's drop to a command line or another console and killall ;-)

On XP, if you have the "group similar taskbar buttons" options ticked on, you can just right-click and hit "close group", and they would all close.

Pretty sure this is true of later Windows also, but I'm at work and can't test!

Yes there are ways to close all. I was just testing to see if they would close one by one by the count on the task bar.

It happens to us all.
I had just written and pasted, edited a couple of hudred lines of code.
Removed my headset and left my desk. When i arrived back i found the headset on the delete key. Nothing left.
Luckily i had saved all.
First rule of computing save save save, backup backup backup.

Yes and do not write lengthy emails or forum answers direct. Always write them in a word processor first and save save,. It also gives a chance to edit them easier before posting.
