First light in our completed observatory
It's been a while since we have taken any images due to having everything dismantled whilst building our ROR observatory.
At last it's completed !!! ( except for lining)
We had our first chance on Monday to set everything up - alignment collimation focus and guiding. We finally had a small window before moonrise so this is only 7 x 8min lights stacked with 7 x 8min darks.
So nice and easy finishing the lights then just close the roof and set up for darks. All done nothing to pack up then off to bed. Wow it's great
So here is M8 Lagoon Nebula
Canon 40D unmodded Celestron C 9.25 f6.3
7 x 8min ISO800
Full frame at f6.3
Now we need another clear night and hopefully get 20-30 subs which should give us more detail.
Larger size on website below.
 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Very nice first image from the obs.
I'm jealous of you ROR guys!!
Although I've got the gear strip-down in the wee hours down to a fine art, the luxury of your setup is still very appealing!!!
I'm sure this new "toy" will increase your productivity significantly.
Cheers
Doug

Thanks Paul
Would have really liked to get more subs, but the cloud and then the moon rising gave us a limited window.

I found it was one of the best moves I had made, having your own Obs makes astronomy *so much* easier, accessible, and enjoyable.
Congratulations!

The setting up of the scope and equipment was really getting to be a chore Doug. The obs took quite some time to build but it sure was worth it. Just have to rely on more clear skies to help increase that productivity

Nice image. I like the obs too. Maybe the inside linings need doing so you can keep the stud work dry over the coming years (just looked on your website). All looks good though. Well done.

Great image and FANTASTIC observatory. I have not imaged for going on 9 months now ... waiting for the ROR to finally came around. 3 hrs of setting up, drift aligning then putting away grows thin after awhile ... especially once Id mastered the aligning processes etc ... I cant wait until this moment arrives for me ... I am at the very least jealous and covet your observatory. GREAT JOB ... ENJOY

Thanks for the comments Humayun. I guess we all want an obs and it's taken us a long time to build ours so you will eventually do the same sometime

The lining is underway Paul. Just had a breather from the hard yakka for a few days

It seemed like it would never be finished Jeff. Then once the roof frame was underway things seemed to come together a bit faster. Good luck with your project
